Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil: a Natural Aphrodisiac With Calming Properties

Coming from Cananga odorata, a plant native to the Philippines and Indonesia, ylang-ylang essential oil has a host of health benefits. Considered «the oil of the inner child», it affects our emotional balance and the cardiovascular and hormonal systems, being known as one of the most powerful aphrodisiac essential oils, as it influences our sexual energy, calming the mind and body and awakening the sensuality.

Commonly used in aromatherapy, this oil is capable of calming feelings of stress , anxiety and sadness. Its antidepressant properties not only dissipate negative emotions, but also promote positive feelings of joy and optimism, improving our mood. About the tree

Ylang-ylang trees are native to the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. They grow quickly, need a lot of sun to grow and are happiest in tropical forest conditions. They have smooth, shiny green leaves and are often covered in fragrant flowers, which change color as they develop.

These trees also produce fruit, which turns black when ripe, and provides a useful food source for a wide variety of tropical birds and small mammals. Moths pollinate ylang-ylang flowers, which release their strongest scent at night, to attract them.

History

Ylang-ylang became known to European explorers in the 1600s, and over time, its fragrance became popular throughout Europe.

At the beginning of the 20th century, after a French chemist discovered its medicinal properties, ylang-ylang essential oil began to be used as a remedy for intestinal infections. Furthermore, in the Philippines, for example, it is traditionally used to treat cuts, burns and insect bites.

Today, this oil is recognized, above all, for its relaxing properties, relieving the harmful effects of anxiety and stress , and is considered beneficial for treating diseases associated with female reproductive health (premenstrual syndrome, low libido, etc.).

Symbolism

In the Wicca natural religion tradition, ylang-ylang is associated with the planet Venus and can be used as a love amulet. Its aroma is believed to help dispel fear and promote self-confidence. Combining its stimulating and calming properties, ylang-ylang also helps promote self-acceptance and self-love, eliminating self-destructive emotions.

An aphrodisiac from Nature

Our sexual energy is associated with creativity and, as such, stimulating it is much more significant than providing an easier reach for orgasm. Some essential oils can boost your sex life, as is the case with the bright, floral fragrance of ylang-ylang, which, being rich in notes of spice and fruit, is famous for being sensual and calming.

In Indonesia, it is believed that the flowers of this tree have aphrodisiac properties, making it part of their culture to spread them on the bed of a newly married couple. This quality is recognized by the fact that, allegedly, it is capable of increasing libido and sensuality between the couple, addressing the mental and emotional factors that, not infrequently, prevent a more romantic atmosphere.

When our stress levels are high, some essential oils can help us calm down. On the other hand, when we lack energy, there are others that can have the stimulating effect we need, namely aphrodisiacs, which promote excitement by increasing circulation and blood flow.

You can create a synergy between this oil and others, through a massage to ignite the chemistry and awaken desire in your loved one. The tropical and feminine aromas of ylang-ylang merge very well with the sweet and masculine notes of sandalwood essential oil and jasmine. The result is a seductive combination of aromas that intensifies passion and romance.
