Think about the makeup you usually wear in winter. Have you thought? So, forget about it, because in summer all we want is to acquire naturally beautiful, uniform skin with a touch of color that gives it new life. And even though we are still in spring, it won't be long before the thermometer starts to show higher temperatures.
Even if you have a makeup regime that's been tried and tested by you time and time again, there's something about the summery hue that makes you want to try something new. Suddenly, you feel like wearing that orange-red lipstick to match your freckled skin.
Frederica tried to put together the makeup tricks that best highlight her tanned skin. Curious? Prepare your brushes and read on.
What our make-up expert says :
We asked our makeup expert, Sara Castro, what makeup strategies to use to highlight our sun-kissed skin: “I'm a big fan of earthy tones. When I do makeup in summer campaigns, for example, I always try to highlight the skin, to make it as beautiful as possible. I like the skin to look very natural, with more terracotta tones.” However, our makeup artist explains to us that we need to pay attention to the brown tones we choose, depending on the different skin tones: “The important thing is to choose the ideal brown, and the truth is that there are already several terracotta tones available, something that It can also highlight lighter skin tones.”
If we want to step out of our comfort zone and make our summer makeup a little more daring, we can always use brighter colors: “More eccentric people can always opt for more colorful shades on their eyes – neon shades, especially the pinks and the yellows. Cheerful summer colors will always highlight tanned skin. A colored eyeliner and mascara look incredible on a natural complexion”, explains Sara. “Another trick is, instead of using a pinker blush , use one that is more brownish; and instead of using a more pearlescent highlighter, we use one that has a bronze pigment.”
In terms of lips, once again, our makeup artist recommends brown lipsticks, but with some care, as these do not favor people who are already very dark. “ Nude lips are always in fashion. Leaving your lip natural and just putting on a gloss is always a good idea”, he adds.
But not only radiant skin and healthy cheekbones make for good summer makeup. Eyebrows play a major role in this issue: “It is very important to outline our eyebrows according to the tone of our hair. This will help a lot to enhance our tan tone.”
Replace the foundation with the corrector.
After a few days spent sunbathing, the skin reaches a tone that makes us want to give up the amount of makeup we tend to wear in winter. All we want is to let the skin's natural glow shine through. Therefore, try to only use a concealer on small areas of imperfection (below the eye or any other emerging spots).
Use cream products.
This is the perfect opportunity to use cream products, as they subtly blend into the skin without camouflaging the tan. You can use a double convertible cream for your lips and cheekbones. Choose pinker tones if your skin is lighter, or peach tones if you have already achieved a darker skin tone. Apply the product like blush to your cheeks and give them a lit look like you've just left the beach.
Cream contouring is also the best option for summer. After perfecting your skin, use a contouring palette to sculpt your face. Apply bronzer to your hairline, temples, and cheekbones. At the end, moisten a BeautyBlender and gently tap the skin to diffuse and blend all the makeup.
Add light to the high points of your face.
Adding light to the high points of the face is a much lighter way of giving shape to the face, rather than relying on darker tones, which when applied to tanned skin run the risk of making it look overly made-up. Use a cream highlighter on the center of your forehead, the tip of your nose, the top of your cheekbones and the tip of your chin. Always spread the product very well.
Draw freckles.
For a super natural beach look , try dotting some faux freckles on your nose and cheeks. If you have natural freckles – lucky! – don’t be afraid to show them off. Our makeup artist also approves of this trend: “Freckles in summer are fantastic for highlighting tanned skin!”
Wear red lips.
Red lipsticks or warm orange tones are really great options to highlight your tan. The face comes to life.
Use a gold highlighter.
If you usually use pinkish highlighters, try switching to a more golden or bronze tone to highlight your tanned skin. Gold is one of the best shades for summer, being perfect for highlighting the tops of your cheekbones, collarbones and the center of your legs.
